▌Description

The CORAX AUV is a purpose-built vehicle system optimized for high-resolution optical and acoustical seafloor mapping. Engineered for close-range seabed efficiency, it can be deployed, controlled, and recovered by a minimal crew, making it ideal for both routine surveys and specialized mapping missions. The CORAX’s core configuration includes a robust computational platform, high-resolution cameras, forward looking sonar, and precision navigation sensors. Additional capabilities can be expanded through modular integration of additional sensors, communication systems, and specialized mapping payloads. The system can be delivered with up to four batteries for operations beyound 24 hrs.

▌Case Studies

Corax Endurance in water

CORAX Endurance to search for scallops in the Barents Sea

Skarv Technologies (Trondheim) is deploying its CORAX autonomous underwater vehicle with Ava Ocean (Ålesund) to locate Arctic scallops in the Barents Sea, pairing long-endurance AUV operations with satellite comms, onboard real-time image processing, and object recognition that dynamically adapts the search pattern to what it sees on the seabed. When CORAX detects scallops, it relays precise location data to the mother vessel so harvesting can be planned and executed more accurately-cutting unnecessary seabed disturbance and time spent searching. The partnership demonstrates how autonomy and AI-driven seabed mapping can modernize high-north fisheries by enabling targeted, non-destructive harvesting of slow-growing, high-value scallops while reducing ecological impact compared to traditional methods.
