Skarv Technologies is a Norwegian company that develops and manufactures autonomous underwater systems for dual-use applications across defence and commercial maritime operations.
The product range covers the CORAX family of autonomous underwater vehicles, subsea cameras and lighting systems, and software for processing and analysing seabed data. Skarv also delivers custom solutions configured to the requirements of a specific customer mission.

How it started
Skarv Technologies was founded in 2019 by four PhDs from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and its Applied Underwater Robotics Laboratory. Having worked across a vast range of underwater applications, the group identified the need for more efficient data collection tools capable of providing refined information directly in real time, without any form of post-processing. Achieving this required a vertically integrated hardware and software platform unlike anything available in the current market.
Early applications of the system included a marine debris survey of the Store Lungegårdsvann seabed in Bergen and machine-vision net inspection in aquaculture. In 2023, Skarv Technologies was chosen for NATO's DIANA accelerator program among 1300 Norwegian companies. We have also participated in NATO's REPMUS exercise every year in Portugal since 2024.
What we do today
Skarv is now sixteen people in Trondheim, and our technology has become a set of field proven vehicles: the CORAX 600 and CORAX Endurance. Everything is developed, built, and tested in-house, and sold together as a complete system or separately for integration onto other platforms. The modular design and in-house development allows for very rapid customisation to meet the needs of specific missions, and the vehicles are efficient and affordable next to the traditional AUVs of comparable capability.
The same platform covers survey and defence applications: seabed mapping and inspection for offshore and aquaculture operators, and mine countermeasures and protection of underwater infrastructure for defence customers. A long-endurance CORAX went to Ava Ocean for mapping in the Barents Sea, and vehicles have been delivered to navy customers alongside commercial operators.
